I want to touch the darkness
And see what touches back
What lies within the shadow
What color is in the black?
Is it chained upon the wall
To fly if chain where split?
Or lives it there in fearsome calm
Content where sun nor mind has lit?
The corners dark within my heart
Are filled and not a void
I feel it’s breath on silent night
It stirs with plots and ploy
Like an alleyway which echoes back
A dark sound not made by you
What eye has not seen, the mind has felt
For but a fleeting moment or two
I dare not now to shake the chain
Lest body and soul it tear away
But I know myself, and if not now
I’ll shake the chain another day
This is a great poem
